The new 3G iPhone includes GPS. This makes it super interesting for runners, of course, as there is also an mp3-player to play e.g. a workout playlist.
So far (two weeks after launch), there are no iPhone applications for runners. However, there is RunKeeper in the pipeline which will enable iPhone users to track distance an speed and to map the tracks on Google maps. There is a YouTube video demonstrating the app here. Sounds interesting!
Path Tracker is another iPhone application waiting to be included iPhone App Store that displays your path on a map as you move, the distance you’ve traveled, average speed, coordinates, and altitude.
The next Apple update of the iPhone firmware will likely improve navigating with turn-by-turn GPS. So there is a lot more to come.
Another interesting application for the iPhone is WordPress. WordPress is the stuff enabling blogs as the one you are just reading. They created a WordPress for iPhone application for mobile blogging. Cool! Blogging while running -with some nice photos perhaps?! For some runner photos see my website.

So much for the nike+ apple partnership!?
That is good news. I was considering purchasing a new ipod because of the nike+ stuff, but after reading your blog, I think I’ll wait until I’m eligible for a phone upgrade!
Comment by Ray July 29, 2008 @ 00:37By the way, the Nike+ gadget does not work with the iPhone.
I have an updated post about Running with the iPhone here.
